IT’S THE TIME TO RECONSOLIDATION NOT DECONSOLIDATION, DEMOCRACY

Some lessons From Yascha Mounk research in Journal of Democracy

Democracy have been most legitimate political system from one decade now. After the collapse of communist political system and breakdown of many autoritarian regime such monarchy and the other, democracy have been accepted intuitively as ‘good’. Although, we can see, that many non-democratic regime have claim that there are democratic too. Democracy seem be able to solve many problem in many countries. The norms and institusions of democracy such liberty, equility, election principle and the division of power likely understood as sacred value. But, this is the start of problem.

Democracy as we know, is not the sacred value. The finding and establishment of democracy in the world, less run long than any other economic-political system in the history. Such monarchy, khilafah, or military rule. Democracy as we know today, is the complement and fullfill with liberal value. And those system always be compared with many other liberal countries such US, Europe and anglo-saxon regime. So, the sacrament of democracy have been not on the strong ground. Yes, its have been rejected, that many norms of democracy understod as universal value. But the derivation from it, is not universal and full of bias. Poeple can says, that the fail of many regime who want to stand democracy because they are lost liberal value. So the problem is not democracy, but illiberalisness. Therefore, countries like Indonesia have a long debated about democracy and propose such term to compete that with demokrasi pancasila.

From Yasha Mounk research that its suprising many stable democracy regime is under attack. Especially in US American and other Europe Countries. From the World Survey Value, the rising of populist party and populist leader who attack many democratic norm is such the iceberg, prove that citizens have downturn in trust of democracy. The strength of anti-system movement, broad support for mistrust in their political system in the young generation (millenial generations) than older generation (baby-boomer and on which). The rise of identity sentiment and other primordial sentiment have been clear-cut evidence to attack democray. Many scientist and academicians says, that the election of Trump is high prove for death of democracy. And as Ban Waggon simulation or Ban Wagon effect, where the rate of uptake of beliefs, ideas, fads and trends increases the more that they have already been adopted by others. That’s why  the collapse of Soviet is the collapse of almost all other communist countries.

But, i think Mounk miss one of the main problem. The problem in my opinion, is the rise of digital revolution and the fail of indigenization of Democracy is the key part what missing. I believe there now we does’nt have any other economis-political system than democracy. The task and upchallenging of democracy is to re-concolidate again. Many norms and principle of democracy is not going on prosperity broad widen in all countries is the democratic role play too.But, many norms of democracy such as liberty have been problem in any other civilization who emphasize the collectiveness and thogetherness. Thats why illiberal democracy is not the key answers. The two, is rising of digital revolution like Facebook, Twitter, Google and many digital campaigning more importent to citizens to express their choice and preference. So that, mistrust of political institution will be rising slowly or fastly, but surely. The inability of democracy to adapt this changing is insufficiency to survive his live. So that, i think its time not the deconsolidation, but reconsolidation. Or is how democracy will die and any something better?
